The Wireless Distribution System (WDS) is a special operating mode that allows multiple Wi-Fi access points to communicate with each other wirelessly. Not all access points and wireless routers support this option, but may be particularly useful to extend the coverage of a wireless home network.

Important: WDS is not ratified by the IEEE standard and is therefore it’s not guaranteed a perfect compatibility between devices supporting this technology, so our advice is to use the same equipment manufacturer if you want to install a distributed network. Moreover, in most cases the devices configured in WDS mode not handle WPA encryption but only the old WEP.

A WDS can consist of two or more access points. All elements of access network must be configured in WDS mode; the main access point (the one that provides Internet access and from which terminals are connected, even wired) is vhosts wireless router, while other devices that use the distributed system to extend the range are called wireless client router.

To recognize each other the devices exploit the MAC addresses of network on each machine ,then you have to indicate the addresses of other access points that make the wireless network.
For repeater network, even an access point operating in WDS mode has to use its radio channel, in part to communicate to other access points and partly to provide connectivity to network clients.

The result is a substantial decrease in performance over the use of a single access point, once again increasing extension of the network is at the expense of network throughput. Remember that all access points of the distributed system must operate on the same wireless channel while it is recommended that you set each device login with a different SSID, since it is not always consumer platforms provide mechanisms for efficient dynamic roaming.

Create a wifi spot to share the Internet connection it’s easy. All you need is an Internet connection, a wireless antenna to send signal, a laptop (dekstop pc) and Connectify software that works with windows 7 and it’s free. Connectify allows you to create a Wi-Fi protected hotspot and use it to connect all devices with their air cards.You can also quickly create connections between only two devices (Ad-hoc mode,your PC and another device).

How to make a wifi spot:
-download Connectify, install, and run it. It will create an icon in the taskbar at the bottom right next to the clock of Windows. A simple left click on this icon will give access to the main screen.
-Fill in the data form to create your wifi spot.
–Wi-Fi Name: Enter the name of the network;
–Passphrase: Enter a password network (minimum 8 characters for a maximum of 63);
–Internet: Select the connection which the computer normally connects to the Internet (your Dsl for example);
–Mode: Select Access Point, WPA2-PSk

Now click on the “start Hotspot” button to start wifi. Ater a few second the status will pass from “off” to “runningmode”. You can now connect other devices to internet wifi spot using air cards. In the “connected clients” section you can find Ip address of all devices connected to the network; Similarly, in “Disconnected Clients “, you will find devices address connected during the past.There is also the possibility to assign an icon for each device, simply selecting the item list and click “Set Icon menu” with your right mouse button.

Connectify doesn’t work with these air cards: Belkin F5D7050UK, Belkin Wireless G MIMO devices (as of version 3.1.2.0), D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122, Gigabyte GA-WPKG 802.11g, Intel 3945/4965,2200BG (most Intel cards), Mac Book Builtin Broadcom devices, Realtek RTL8187 (like in older 802.11bg USB dongles), Zydas ZD1211 (also in 802.11bg USB dongles).

Everything is ready for LTE (Long term evolution) the fourth-generation mobile networks (4G). Many companies announced agreements to 66 networks (22 in 2010) and first Lte products.
The LTE standard is ready for data, while for voice call is in draft. At the same companies announce other news: TD-LTE and LTE Advanced, to hit record Gbps by 2014-2015. The 4G will be the first universal technology for the mobile network. It will also be the first fully IP-based: Lte ends with the era of circuit-switched telephony, designed for mobile calls.

Information, including voice, begin to travel in the form of data packets. A revolution, very expensive: Telia Sonera, at the moment the only Lte operator, have launched it in Stockholm and Oslo, respectively with Ericsson and Huawei. Telia Sonera estimate a cost of 70 million euros to cover another 28 cities in 2010 in Sweden and Norway. Companies must rebuild from scratch the mobile network, with its various systems. Given the costs, it is unthinkable that operators pass to Lte suddenly: they will do so gradually, maintaining at the same time GSM and UMTS / HSPA.
UMTS and / or GSM netowork will remain for some years the only standard supported by most of the cell phones. Ericsson also has multi-standard equipment (it is the first networking vendor in the world, Huawei is the second). Qualcomm has introduced dual-mode chip.

It is urgent to increase the capacity of cells, because the mobile traffic will increase more than sevenfold in the world between 2010 and 2014, according to GSA. The Lte offers greater speed (100 Mbps), lower latency but also lower operating costs: 4G network will work with IP protocol, it needs fewer devices, which are also more advanced and therefore consume less (10 – 20%) also they have a better intelligent traffic management system. A network test made by Ericsson in Stockholm, presented in early May 2010, shows that the performance of Lte are greater than ADSL 2 Plus (20 Mbps), Huawei has shown instead, in Shanghai in late May, some Lte 4g applications: 3D games, high definition IPTV (1080p). From 2011-2012 there will be the first networks TD-LTE (Time Division) while the current is Fd (frequency division, more adapted to the voice). The TD-LTE, shown for its first time at 2010 Shanghai China Mobile Expo, can add up the frequencies in the downlink and uplink , to double the bandwidth.

From late 2009, the industry works at Advanced Lte at 300/100 Mbps to 1.2 Gbps in terms of reduced mobility (as shown by Huawei in March, in the laboratory). Benefits are possible thanks to new functions, such as carriers, and spectrum aggregation (aggregates resources different wireless), the Comp (Coordinated multipoint transmission the user connects to multiple base stations at once) and better Mime download (multiple smart antennas).
From 2015 we will see the first phones cloud, that will do everything via the Internet, will be the first to launch them Huawei and ZTE, while today only Samsung (SCH-r900) and HTC Evo 4G has announced a LTE phone.

4G Lte networks start in Usa around the end of 2010 with Centurytel, Metro PCS, Verizon Wireless, Cox Comms and in Canada with Telus and Bell Canada.

The iPad comes, as you would expect these days with aircard wireless connectivity built in. This is a device that has been designed to be the ultimate portable gadget, and used not only in your own home but when you are out an about too. WiFi technology is everywhere, and the availability of wireless ports increases everyday. Some people think that to truly get the benefit out of the iPad you need 3G, however, I think that for most users they will find that there are more than enough wireless hotspots out there for them to get the most out of devices.

For those times when you are in a WiFi blackspot you can always relished the unconnected time that you have an make use of all of the other features of this ultimate touch screen computer. You can of course use the high definition screen to watch a movie, or listen to your favorite tunes that you have synced up from your main computer using the iPad dock. If you want some time to relax and are in one of those rare moments without a wireless connection you could always read a book on the beautiful eReading application. When you are back and connected you can download music, books and films straight to your device in just a couple of clicks, or more accurately touches.

Due to Apple’s early locking down of the iPhone, many of the fantastic applications utilized wireless connectivity to talk to other devices, and this trend is set to continue with the iPad and the new applications being developed specifically for this device. We expect that there will be far more business user centric applications and this will mean that people would want to hook up their iPad using a wireless connection to presentation devices, printers and even to hook in to bespoke machinery such as in the medical world.

There are a number of fantastic iPad accessories being released along with the iPad, but there are a lot more coming on to the market. As wireless becomes more common and more useful, expect to see a lot more peripherals supporting this kind of connection. When you combine the ultimate usability of the iPad, along with both the native and third party applications you can get for it and you connect it to a wireless network and ultimately the Internet you can see that it really is the future of wireless computing.

Some of the major U.S. airlines are equipping their airplanes with the access point capable of supporting the Gogo system, developed by Aircell, to allow passengers Internet inflight access with their laptop and air cards . The service has not only attracted the attention of big companies specialized in the business traffic as Delta, United, Virgin America,American Airlines but even AirTran, low-cost carrier overseas, has installed Gogo internet system on its Boeing 737 and 717.
Delta has already deployed the service on around half of its domestic fleet (150 aircraft).
When aircraft reach the minimum quota of 10 thousand feet, passenger may activate their laptop and air cards and check the signal called gogoinflight. Inside the portal Gogo Mobile you will simply enter your login credentials to start surfing on Internet. At present, rates of use vary between 7.95 and $ 12.95, it depends on the duration of the flight and the type of device. The download speed can vary between 266Kbps and 1.4 Mbps, while upload range is more limited: around 250-300kbps.

Internet on aircraft cost to airlines, without difference between type of airplane, around 100 thousand dollars. Arianne Venus, spokeswoman for Aircell, said that the orders orders exceed their expectations. The changes needed on the aircraft include the installation of three antennas fixed on the outside of the fuselage through which aircraft can make contact with the national air-to-ground net (ATG) operated by Aircell, which will soon consist of 500 towers able to emit a signal up to 350 miles away.
The same Aircell CEO Jack Blumenstein, was expressed on the success of Gogo but that the devices ideal for use will not be the laptops with air cards, whose autonomy is limited when you consider the length of flights coast to coast, but with the smartphone chip integrated WiFi, more manageable. “When two summers ago we began to set up our network – explains Blumestein – no smartphone with wireless technology was available. Now 90% of mobile devices out in the next five years will include a WiFi chip “.
Remains to be resolved the problem of security. A test conducted last summer by SNOsoft Research Team has shown a vulnerability in the transmission of data between the device and the aircraft access point: the connection is found not encrypted so it is possible that the vortex of data that runs on the director can be intercepted from other passengers motivated by dubious intent.
